Sigma Sigma Sigma Mourns Loss of 8th National President
Mimi Brandt Hiner Enters Omega Chapter

Woodstock, VA - May 12, 2012 -- It is with great sadness that Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority ("Tri Sigma") announces the passing of Mimi Brandt Hiner, Beta Xi, Greater St. Louis Alumnae Chapter and Omega. Mimi's love, kind spirit and continued passion for Tri Sigma will be greatly missed.
Kaye Schutte Schendel, Gamma Phi and current National President, offered these thoughts on Mimi. "Mimi was one of the most loyal Tri Sigmas I have ever met. Her lifelong commitment to the Sorority was an extraordinary example to all of us, especially to the collegians and alumnae who were fortunate enough to meet her."
Mimi Hiner was initiated into Tri Sigma in 1965, and served in a variety of regional and national volunteer positions, including National Collegiate Chairman (1970-1974), Area Director (1974-1975, 1976-1977) prior to serving as Collegiate Vice President for two sequential terms (1977-1983). Mimi was elected to serve as National President (1983 – 1989) at the 33rd National Convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The National President serves as the distinguished leader of Tri Sigma, and she was the spokesperson and undeniable leader of the organization. She succeeded Helen Marie Eggert Snyder, Alpha Xi and Omega. Mimi oversaw the incorporation of the Sigma Sigma Sigma Foundation, adjusted the member services approach and realigned the officer structure. A futuristic thinker, she organized a long range planning committee to secure the future of the sorority. She also served as the Chairman of the Tri Sigma Foundation in 1990.
Kaye continued, "Mimi will be remembered as a great storyteller with a great sense of humor and her quick wit. She was dedicated to Tri Sigma, lived our values every day and was admired by many hundreds of Tri Sigmas."
Sigma Sigma Sigma would like to extend our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Mimi. Mimi is survived by her husband Bill, her son, Bill, and her daughter, Leah Hiner Richmond, Beta Beta, Missouri State University. Leah serves as a member of the Chapter Advisory Board for Theta Delta, Lindenwood University.
From her 1988 Founders Day message, Mimi stated, "Our Founders provided us with a firm base on which to build our membership, but it is we who have the opportunity to chart the future of Sigma Sigma Sigma."
The funeral for Mimi Brandt Hiner will be held at Salem Evangelical Free Church in Florissant, MO, on Monday, May 14th. Members are invited to wear a black ribbon under their badge for three days in remembrance.
Memorials in Mimi's name may be sent to the Sigma Sigma Sigma Foundation at 225 N. Muhlenberg Street, Woodstsock, VA 22664 or the Salem Evangelical Free Church at 2490 Pohlman Road, Florissant, MO 63033
